Senate Rejects Deputy Maritime Commissioner For International Registry Designate

For the lack of experience the Plenary of the Liberian Senate has rejected President George M. Weah nominee for the Post of Deputy Commissioner for International Registry of the Liberia Maritime Authority.

17 members of the Senate vote for nominee Edwina Collins rejection, with Senator Milton Teahjay of Sinoe voting against and Prince K. Moye of Bong abstaining.

The Senate decision was triggered by a report by it’s Standing Committee on MARITIME headed by Grand Bassa County Senator, Jonathan L. Kaipay recommending the madam Collins rejection.

The Committee indicated that based on its cross-examinations for the Deputy Commissioner -designate for International Registry of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Madam Edwina Collins it realised that while it is true that the nominee is smart and have the passion to serve her Country, but at this point in time the Country needs a competent and Liberian who will relate to International partners for the smooth operation of the Maritime sector.

As such the noted in the report that an intern who doesn’t have an indepth knowledge and experience of the sector is not well suited for said position.

Meanwhile, President Pro-Tempore Prof.Albert T. Chie has instructed Senate Secretary to communicate with President Weah the action of Plenary.
