Margibi County- Representative Tibelrosa Summoh Tarponweh of Margibi Electoral District one has expressed dismay over the flooding of homes along the Robert International Airport highway corridor, reportedly caused by the highway road expansion works.
The East International is currently carrying out construction works for the expansion of the Robert International Airport road.
This, according to residents along the highway, has led to the flooding of their homes, especially during these times of heavy downpours.
Identifying with victims, Representative Tarponweh described the situation as devastating, adding that the company was not careful to avert the situation.
The Margibi County District one Lawmaker revealed that he has communicated with the Ministry of Public Works, National Disaster Management Agency and other relevant government agencies to timely intervene.
“We were here few days ago and highlighted the danger. Apparently the company did not do what was expected to do to avert the expected situation. Though the expansion of our airport road is needed, we don’t want to be in the position where the cure will be worst than the sickness. If you come and destroy our people’s homes through careless works, how do we appreciate you? There would have been a remedy towards this problem”, Representative Tarponweh explained.
Commenting on the damage caused, the Lawmaker added: “This is very devastating. I have spoken with the Public Works Minister and the Head from the National Disaster Management Agency so that we can find a remedy. My interest is solution-driven”.
Amos C. Peers, one of the victims narrated that the flood situation has made him homeless, appealing for assistance.
“This road construction is causing lots of harms to us. The company blocked the various drainages. You see. Our homes are all flooded. There is no where to sleep and we don’t have any food. We need help”, Amos complained.
